Preventative Maintenance Advantages
An audit sheet will be created for every laser printer.
Information generated from this audit will provide IT Management with
information relating to the condition of the current printers onsite.
All laser printers will be cleaned both internally and externally. The
advantages of preventative maintenance are recommended as a matter of course in
the laser printer industry. With regular routine maintenance, many printers are
capable of years of service and millions of pages. The SX engine, with regular
maintenance, has proven itself for nearly ten years of work, and can be expected
to continue for another decade.
Many printers have regularly replaced parts, including maintenance kits, at page
counts of 100,000, 200,000, or in the case of the HP 8150 250,000 pages. Other
machines have common wearing parts, which can cause sudden failures, but are
known to last for up to a certain page count. Routine maintenance also includes
cleaning dust from vents, and generally checking certain ‘consumable’
components.
Many parts in the newer machines can be very expensive to replace when they
fail, but regular maintenance and replacement of components can ensure the
maximum life span for parts such as power supplies and control boards. Simply
failing to keep air vents clean can seriously shorten the expected life of many
parts, due to excessive heat build up. Often, one part failing in a laser
printer will indicate other parts as needing preventative maintenance, or
replacement before they fail.
